Selangor PKR Youth chiefs rebel against Akmal

The majority of Selangor PKR Youth division heads are against the appointment of their Rawang counterpart as their leader.

In a joint statement today, 13 out of 22 PKR Youth division heads said this had already been expressed at a meeting on June 29 with PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

"We reject the appointment of a new leader and express our loss of confidence in Akmal's leadership," said the group.

They are also demanding that an extraordinary general meeting be held to choose a new PKR Youth leader.

Yesterday, Akmal (above) announced that Rawang PKR Youth chief Chua Wei Kiat  was the new Selangor PKR Youth chief.

Akmal claimed to have consulted 18 PKR Youth division heads during the July 29 meeting.

The group of 13 refutes this, claiming that only 15 PKR Youth chiefs were present of which only three backed Chua.

The appointment of state PKR Youth heads is the prerogative of the PKR Youth chief, which is an elected position.

Akmal removed Najwan Hilmi as Selangor PKR Youth chief recently and thus dissolving the wing's leadership in the state.

Najwan's supporters are claiming that they are the victims of a proxy war between supporters of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and those who are loyal to former PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

At least publicly, Rafizi is no longer active in politics. Akmal is one of Rafizi's best known protégé. - Mkini
