Transition into Phase 2 on state-by-state basis

The National Security Council is coming up with new thresholds for states based on the number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 residents.

PETALING JAYA: Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the government is looking at the thresholds for transitioning into Phase 2 of the national recovery plan at the various state levels.

Ismail said imposing Phase 1 nationwide would be unfair to states performing better in terms of managing Covid-19, such as Perlis which had recorded single-digit cases over the past week.

He said the National Security Council (MKN) was coming up with the gauges for the respective states, including a threshold based on the number of cases per 100,000 residents.

But he denied rumours that Perlis, Terengganu and Kelantan would be moving into Phase 2, saying any announcement must come from either the health ministry or MKN.

“But yes, we are looking at thresholds based on states, not just nationally. For now, there has been no announcement. So, until then, we will consider them rumours,” he told reporters at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) vaccination centre today.
