PETALING JAYA: Two men who posed as policemen have been arrested after they robbed a teenager on the Middle Ring Road 2 last week.

Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the two suspects, aged 36 and 40, were arrested at Kampung Klang Gates Baharu, at about 10.30pm yesterday. They both tested positive for drugs.

Several mobile phones, helmets, two Yamaha motorcycles and a Proton Perdana as well as clothing bearing the police logo were seized.

It is understood that during the incident, the victim who worked as a cashier was riding a motorcycle on the highway when he was detained by one of the two men, who introduced himself as a policeman.

“The suspect took the victim’s bag and motorcycle keys. The 19-year-old victim lost RM700 in cash, a mobile phone and various personal documents,” Farouk said in a statement today.

He said both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. They were remanded until Friday for further investigations.

The two suspects were unemployed and had a history of 30 criminal offences, including vehicle theft and posing as police, Farouk said. They would target teenagers who were alone and in quiet areas.

“With the arrest of the two suspects, we believe we have successfully solved one robbery case in Ampang and four more cases in Gombak and Setapak,” he said.

Further investigations are being held to identify the involvement of other suspects. - FMT
