Najib steps in to help teen who lost arm in mugging

Siti Nur Aziziah Syafriadi is receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital after surgery on her arm.

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has stepped in with legal and financial aid for a 17-year-old delivery woman who lost her arm after in brutal mugging in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Siti Nur Azizah Syafriadi and her boyfriend were heading to Jinjang from Jalan Kuching at midnight on Thursday when they were chased by three men on two motorcycles.

The men caused the pair to fall off, with Nur Azizah suffering a severe injury in her right shoulder while her boyfriend suffered bruises on his face and body.

A relative of Nur Azizah told FMT yesterday that doctors could not save her right arm and were forced to amputate it at the shoulder.

Najib said in a Facebook posting that he was heartbroken and incensed when reading about Nur Azizah’s situation, describing the robbery as cruel and inhumane.

He added that his officers have contacted Nur Azizah’s family and have channelled an amount of emergency cash assistance while offering legal aid.

“I was made to understand that after her father died, she shouldered the responsibility of helping increase the family’s income by working for a food delivery service. I am very angered by this criminal act. As desperate as we may be, do not resort to crime,” he told his readers.

Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai had said police are tracking down the suspects, and called for witnesses or anyone with information on the suspects to contact Sentul district police headquarters at 03-40482206.
