Not possible to falsify digital Covid-19 vaccine certificates, says Adham

PARLIAMENT | Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Adham Baba said it is not possible for the digital Covid-19 vaccine certification to be falsified as it is only issued through the MySejahtera application.

Digital vaccine certifications that have been printed out physically are not accepted, he said.

“Falsification of digital certifications cannot happen because it is only issued through MySejahtera and we actually don’t accept printouts,” Adham said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was responding to Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian) who had asked about the government’s actions against anti-vaccination groups and falsified vaccine certifications as well as the latest status of vaccination for adolescents.

Previously, it was reported that there is a rise in syndicates selling fake Covid-19 vaccine certifications, both digital and physical versions.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had said authorities would crack down on such syndicates.

In an earlier question from Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (Pakatan Harapan-Pandan), Adham had also said that his ministry was in the process of developing a ‘vaccine certificate verifier’ to ensure that every digital vaccine certificate is legitimate through the attached unique QR code.

He also noted in response to Ahmad’s question that the government is currently using advocacy actions to provide complete and accurate information about the Covid-19 vaccines in order to appeal to those who are against the vaccines.

Meanwhile, he said 50 percent of adolescents nationwide have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination.

He also expects “almost all” adult population in Malaysia to be fully vaccinated by the end of October.

The ministry is also improving the contact tracing system through source data to identify and analyse potential interactions, analysis to determine the risk of transmission, a dashboard to facilitate contact tracing for the ministry’s staff as well as additional support to strengthen the process, Adham added. - Mkini
