Those going overseas for studies exempted from MyTravelPass

Students who received offers from foreign universities and the two persons accompanying them are exempted from applying for permission to leave the country via MyTravelPass (MTP) from Oct 1.

Immigration Department director Khairul Dzaimee Daud (above) said the exemption also applies to students leaving to resume their studies and the two persons accompanying them.

Students sitting for examinations overseas and the two accompanying them are also exempted.

He said also exempted were situations such as death and critical illness as well as meeting husbands or wives in another country and whose marriage was registered overseas.

Those attending sports events, seminars, and meetings, as well as joining humanitarian missions are also exempted.

“Malaysian and foreign diplomats also don't have to apply for the MTP,” said Khairul in a statement today.

To facilitate the process, he advised Malaysians who have been given the exemption to have ready all relevant documents for their travel and to show them to the immigration officers on duty at the exit points.
