Umno suspends Papagomo for 6 years

Umno has suspended its youth wing's executive council member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris for six years after he was found to have violated the party constitution.

Azri (above), also known as Papagomo, had his membership suspended from Aug 27.

This was communicated in a letter dated today (Sept 1) which was signed by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, that was sighted by Malaysiakini.

“We would like to inform you that the supreme council met on Aug 27 and decided that your membership rights will be suspended... for six years effective from Aug 27, 2021 or for two Umno election cycles,” it read.

Ahmad said the council found Azri in violation of numerous parts of the party constitution.

This included requirements for members to adhere to party instructions, implement party policies, adhere and respect party decisions, and preserve the good name of the party.

In an immediate response, Azri said he did not do any wrong by proposing for Umno to form a working relationship with Bersatu.

He will not be appealing the party’s decision.

“I will not appeal because I did not do anything wrong.

“If they say I invited Umno to support Bersatu and that did not respect the Umno general assembly’s resolution, I believe the government we have today is a result of Umno and Bersatu working today. Therefore I don’t know what is wrong about this,” he said.

Nevertheless, Azri thanked the party but hoped it would be saved from those holding it “hostage”.

“Umno needs to be saved. Umno is not in the wrong here, but there are individuals inside Umno that are holding it hostage.

“I believe that Umno, especially the youth out there, will rise up and pressure for Umno to be saved from being held hostage.

“But I want to thank (Umno president) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and let us see what is next,” he said. - Mkini
