Welfare dept gets temporary custody of Rumah Bonda owner’s toddler

Rumah Bonda owner Siti Bainun Ahd Razali had been operating the welfare home illegally since 2019.

KUALA LUMPUR: The magistrates’ court here ordered a toddler, adopted by Rumah Bonda founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali, to be placed under the custody of the welfare department (JKM) for three years.

Siti Bainun’s lawyer Nur Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor said magistrate Norfarahain Roslan made the order today during a custody application hearing.

“The three-year-old girl will be placed under JKM’s custody pending disposal of Siti Bainun’s child abuse case in the sessions court,” she told reporters.

Siti Bainun was charged in the sessions court on Aug 20 for allegedly neglecting Bella, a 13-year-old girl with Down Syndrome.

Aminahtul added that they would be filing an appeal before the High Court against the magistrate’s order to grant custody to JKM.

“The hearing will continue on Nov 2 and Nov 16 for Siti Bainun’s applications to obtain full custody of her other four adopted children,” she said.

JKM previously took custody of Siti Bainun’s five adopted children on July 16, after she was arrested by police over the Bella abuse case.

Bella was found with burn marks on her chest, hands, neck and thighs on July 6 after allegedly being a victim of abuse at a condominium unit in Wangsa Maju, which was being used as a welfare home.

The home was also found to have been operating illegally since 2019 and had not been registered with the welfare department. - FMT
