Parliament staff died of Covid-19: KL Health Dept

A Parliament staff member died of Covid-19 while receiving treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Health Department said.

According to its director Dr Param Jeeth Singh, the 54-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital on Nov 9 after he complained of having breathing difficulty during a check at a Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) in Bangsar.

"The case involved a man who worked as an officer at the Parliament, who has no record of any prior chronic illnesses. He had also completed his vaccination on July 11, 2021.

"On Nov 3, the case started to develop fever and cough, before he went for a Covid-19 RT-PCR test on Nov 8. Tests revealed that his CT value was at 17.4. The Lembah Pantai Health office had contacted the patient on the same day for investigation and found that his Covid-19 status was 2a (mild symptoms and low risk).

"The case was then ordered to go to the nearest CAC for clinical checks and treatment if needed. On Nov 9, the case went to the CAC at Bukit Bandaraya Community Hall in Bangsar where he informed the health authority that he was suffering from breathing difficulty. Clinical checks then revealed that he was a Category 4 patient and was immediately referred to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital," Param Jeeth said in a statement today.

The director did not reveal further information on the victim's identity or the nature of his job in the Parliament complex.

However, according to Param Jeeth, the victim did not have contact with Members of Parliament in two weeks before he developed the Covid-19 symptoms.

"The case also had stopped going to work since he first developed the symptoms. The last day he went to his office was on Nov 3.

"We have identified four close contacts, two of whom live with him in the same house while two others at his workplace.

"All of them have gone under quarantine as soon as they were identified as close contacts," the Health Department director added. - Mkini
