PETALING JAYA: A geography and moral studies teacher who picked up two parcels filled with drugs from a Pos Laju centre three years ago was spared the gallows by the High Court in Shah Alam today.
Kasturi Narayanasamy, 45, was ordered to be freed after judicial commissioner Hasbullah Adam found that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against her.
Customs officers had arrested the secondary school teacher at the Pos Laju centre in Kepong, Selangor, at 8.20pm on April 9, 2019.
They found 7,457 methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) pills weighing 1,336.4gm in the two parcels.
She claimed trial after she was charged with trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Since her arrest, Kasturi had been in jail as no bail can be offered under these charges.
She was represented by Sivahnanthan Ragava, while Nabilah Ahmad prosecuted. - FMT
