Floods: 80% of water pumped out of Taman Sri Muda, says Abdul Latiff

SHAH ALAM: The process of draining floodwater from Taman Sri Muda and channeling it to Sungai Klang is 80% complete.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad said 24 water pumps provided by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) would be used at Taman Sri Muda.

“So far, 16 water pumps have been used since 2am Tuesday (Dec 21), and some 80% of stagnant floodwater has been drained.

“We expect the water in Taman Sri Muda to be fully drained soon so clean-up efforts can begin,” he told a press conference at the flood operation centre in Taman Sri Muda on Tuesday (Dec 21).

Asked when the water would be fully drained from Taman Sri Muda, Dr Abdul Latiff said various factors including the size of the area, weather and water level at the nearby river had to be taken into account.

He also urged state governments in flood-hit states to inform the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) if they encounter the issue of stagnant floodwater so water pumps can be mobilised there as well.

Dr Abdul Latiff said overall, the flood situation in the affected states had improved.

“Thank you to all frontliners who have worked tirelessly since the start of the floods. - Star
