PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has denied it had intimidated Maszlee Malik’s staff, contrary to claims by the former minister.
The anti-graft agency said it had received two complaints against Maszlee and was investigating the matter.
It said an investigation was necessary after an official complaint was lodged about corruption and misappropriation.
MACC also said it was adhering to its standard procedures by interviewing witnesses.
“We will not be pressured by those who attempt to deflect issues revolving around graft and misappropriation,” the agency said in a statement. According to Malaysiakini, quoting unnamed sources, the allegations involved money from a ministry supplier and the use of a Toyota Vellfire.
Maszlee is MP for Simpang Renggam and a former education minister. He said yesterday he believes that the agency’s actions were related to his support of calls for MACC chief Azam Baki to be investigated over allegations about share dealings.
He alleged that MACC officers had gone to his service centre recently and questioned his officers about activities that were organised in the constituency.
“The MACC officers are obviously trying to dig for possible mistakes that may be found in my welfare and educational activities in Simpang Renggam,” he was reported as saying. - FMT
