No PN polls tie-up without DAP, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not accept the proposal to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the coming Johor state elections without DAP, coalition chairman Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Anwar said DAP is a founding partner in PH and has already proven its loyalty.

“If they wish to discuss separately with PKR or DAP, we have no objection. But to provide conditions – without DAP or without PKR – that is difficult to accept,” he said according to Berita Harian.

Some leaders of PN component parties have expressed the view of being willing to work with PKR and Amanah in the Johor elections, but without DAP.

Former Amanah leadership committee member Mazlan Aliman had said PH could work with Bersatu and PAS in the Johor state elections to face Barisan Nasional (BN). If the electoral pact came about, PH would be able to form the largest alliance and provide a tough challenge for BN.

Yesterday, PAS central committee member Mahfodz Mohamed said cooperation between PAS and opposition parties could come about provided the opposition party is “not extreme” and, if the party is a member of PH, is ready to leave DAP behind.

He said Umno had been increasingly keen to sideline PAS, its ally in the Muafakat Nasional pact, the moment Umno leaders returned to power in Putrajaya.

Johor Bahru Bersatu deputy chief Razrul Anwar Rusli was another who had spoken of a grand opposition alliance. He suggested a line-up consisting of Bersatu, PN, PH, Pejuang, Muda and Warisan. - FMT
