Rashid defends work trip abroad during flood season

Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker and Batu Pahat MP Mohd Rashid Hasnon said he was currently abroad for work.

"I am in Vienna on a work trip. I am here in my capacity as a legislative member, as a Parliament representative.

"I am visiting several countries to meet my counterparts in my capacity as deputy speaker," said Rashid, according to The Vibes.

Cartoonist Zunar had criticised Rashid for going abroad during flood season on Twitter. At the time of writing, Zunar's tweet has been shared 449 times.

Zunar's tweet included a photograph that suggested that Rashid's wife had tagged along while he was abroad.

"They are having fun at a time like this. What do you think?" Zunar asked his followers.

In early December last year, there were some reports of flooding in the Batu Pahat region. The situation now is unclear.

A week ago, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had ordered all cabinet ministers who were on their year-end holiday abroad to return home to help with the flood relief efforts.

The exact dates of Rashid's trip and itinerary was unknown.

Rashid told The Vibes that he visited Austria, Slovakia and Iran. He is slated to return on January 8. - Mkini
