1,624 new hospital admissions, Kelantan ICUs at 94% capacity

PETALING JAYA: There were 1,624 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 1,026 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 598 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 221, followed by Perak (190) and Johor (173).

Meanwhile, 22,710 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 32% of their total capacity of 11,617 beds.

ICU beds in four regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kelantan (94%), Melaka (71%), Johor (67%), and Kuala Lumpur (58%).

Seven clusters were reported yesterday.

A total of 203 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 35% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in most states. They are Kuala Lumpur (79%), Kelantan (80%), Johor (75%), Sabah (67%), Penang and Putrajaya (65%), Selangor (64%), Melaka, Perak and Terengganu (59%), as well as Perlis, Kedah and Perlis (53%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), 49% of non-critical beds and 61% of ICUs were in use.
