Covid-19 (Feb 4): 7,234 cases, highest since last October

 


COVID-19 | The number of new Covid-19 cases are continuing to climb, logging 7,234 today.

This is the highest number of new daily cases since Oct 16 (111 days).

The number of active Covid-19 cases has risen to 61,429 as of yesterday - up 55 percent compared to a month ago.

As of yesterday, 3,298 Covid-19 patients have been hospitalised, up 22 percent from a recent low of 2,698 on Jan 20.

The R-naught for the country yesterday was 1.11. At the state level, the highest R-naught is in Perlis (1.25) followed by Johor (1.20).

Apart from Labuan, no part of the country has a R-naught of less than 1.00. A R-naught of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating.

The breakdown of new cases according to states will only be available after midnight. These are the figures for yesterday (5,720 new cases):
