Covid-19 cases in Singapore hit a one-day record of 13,046

SINGAPORE: The Singapore health ministry reported a record high 13,046 new Covid-19 cases yesterday.

This was more than three times the 4,087 cases reported the day before, and more than double the previous high of 6,264 cases reported four days ago.

The total number of cases in Singapore now stands at 379,681. More than 25% of the total, or 85,357, were reported in the last 28 days alone. However, most of them were reported having mild symptoms or were asymptomatic.

In the daily Covid-19 update on its website, the ministry also reported six deaths, which brings the death toll to 866.

According to the ministry, 10,312 of the cases yesterday were identified using the RTK (Rapid Test Kit) Antigen tests with all of them found to have mild symptoms and to be of low risk.

The remaining 2,734 cases were detected using the RT-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test.

Meanwhile, as of yesterday, the ministry reported 998 Covid-19 cases being treated in hospital, with 111 patients in intensive care (ICU), of which 96 required respiratory assistance.

The infection rate (R0, or R-naught) in Singapore has also risen to 1.39, from 1.23 on Thursday, according to the health ministry.

About 92% of Singapore’s population have been fully vaccinated, with 59% having received their booster dose. - FMT
