Covid-19 deaths (Feb 6): 14 reported fatalities, total at 32,025

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 14 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Feb 5), bringing the cumulative death toll to 32,025.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 64.3 percent or nine died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 969 deaths per one million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon, and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The reported deaths were in Selangor (5), Sabah (4), Kuala Lumpur (2), Johor (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), and Perak (1).

No new deaths were reported in Kedah, Kelantan, Malacca, Pahang, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Terengganu, Labuan, and Putrajaya.

An average of 13 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 10, indicating a downtrend.

As of yesterday, there were 65,952 active Covid-19 cases. This is an increase of 28.3 percent from the 51,397 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has increased by 65.8 percent from 39,779.

From the 9,117 new cases yesterday, 358 could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

From the cluster-linked cases, 235 (65.6 percent) were from education institutions while 73 (20.4 percent) were from workplaces.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to community transmissions (38 - 10.6 percent), high-risk groups such as old folks homes (10 - 2.8 percent), and detention centres (2 - 0.6 percent).
