SKUDAI: DAP’s Marina Ibrahim will be involved in a three-way fight for the Skudai seat.

She is one of five new faces that the party had picked to represent Pakatan Harapan (PH)  in the Johor state elections.

The seat will also be contested by Gerakan’s Khoo Kong Ek for Perikatan Nasional (PN) and MCA’s Lim Soon Hai representing Barisan Nasional (BN).

Lim was the first to arrive at 8.45am at the Skudai nomination centre, accompanied by his proposer and seconder.

Khoo arrived five minutes later and Marina was the last to arrive at 9.15am.

The nomination process saw strict SOPs being implemented by the Election Commission (EC) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

There were no processions by supporters, and only the candidates, their proposers and seconders were allowed to enter the nomination centre to submit their candidacy papers.

Based on data from the EC, Skudai has more than 60% Chinese voters.

Former Johor state executive councillor Tan Hong Pin, from DAP, who was earlier rumoured to contest as an independent candidate, chose not to stand.

Instead, the former Johor DAP secretary, who is the incumbent in Skudai, went to the nomination centre to show his support for Marina.

In a Facebook post, Marina thanked Tan for his support. - FMT
