Johor polls: Muhyiddin not qualified to be economic advisor, says Najib

 

PAGOH: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has hit out at Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, saying the latter is not qualified to be Johor economic advisor based on his track record as former prime minister.

The Barisan Nasional advisory chairman said that under Perikatan Nasional, the country was put under one of the longest lockdowns in the world in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Najib argued that the lockdown resulted in many businesses struggling during the period,especially small and medium enterprises.

"So, can we trust people like this? We cannot trust them and should not allow them to lead us, what more as a Johor economic adviser," he said at the candidate introduction programme for the Bukit Kepong and Bukit Pasir state seats here on Saturday (Feb 26).

On Feb 17, Perikatan chairman Muhyiddin had offered himself as the state government's economic adviser if the coalition wins the Johor state election on March 12.

The former prime minister and Johor mentri besar said he intended to help the state's economy affected by the Covid-19 outbreak by creating more job opportunities and providing skills training.

Najib also noted that he had sensed a change of sentiments when he toured around the state constituencies under Pagoh, which is a federal seat held by Muhyiddin.

"I believe that it is no longer a stronghold of that side, but the sentiment has moved towards Barisan," said the Pekan MP. - Star
