'Made up stories' - Sanusi says of snap polls claims in Kedah

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has dismissed speculations of snap polls also being called in Kedah.

This was after Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said there was no need for snap polls in Kedah but added that people should not blame him if "something happened".

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang previously warned that his party could make a similar move after Umno triggered snap polls in Johor without consulting PAS and Bersatu.

The Election Commission is set to announce the date of the Johor polls on Feb 9. On the Kedah front, however, its menteri besar assured that all is calm.

"There are no talks, no wind, no storm nor are the trees shaking. I don't know who are making up these senseless stories.

"All is well in Kedah. Other states should emulate the peace and stability that we have built in Kedah," he told Malaysiakini.

On Jan 30, Umno's Bandar Baharu assemblyperson Norsabrina Mohd Noor denied speculation that she was withdrawing support for the PAS-led Kedah government.

The Kedah government comprises 15 PAS assemblypersons, six from Bersatu and two from Umno, giving them a total of 23.

At least 19 are needed for a simple majority in the 36-member state assembly. - Mkini
