PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) has urged Putrajaya to reveal the SOPs and quarantine procedures for those seeking to perform the umrah, which will resume on Feb 8.

Matta vice-president Mohd Azri Abd Razak said these guidelines need to be revealed as soon as possible since umrah trips will be allowed to resume in a week’s time and tourism agencies need to make the necessary preparations.

He called for fully vaccinated pilgrims to be allowed to undergo home quarantine upon their return, while those who have received their booster doses should be exempted from any mandatory quarantine, provided they test negative upon arrival.

He pointed out that Saudi Arabia did not impose any mandatory quarantine on fully vaccinated Malaysians, while the Langkawi travel bubble allowed immunised foreign tourists to skip quarantine as long as they tested negative.

Azri also called for the full reopening of the international borders since most Malaysians have received their booster jabs, pointing out that Malaysia was among the last to reopen its borders.

“Attention must be given to this issue to save the nation’s economy and tourism agencies, especially Bumiputeras who are involved in managing umrah pilgrimages,” he said in a statement today. - FMT
