Syed Saddiq apologises over swipe at PKR's Tiram rep

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has issued an apology over his earlier remarks seen as targeting alleged failures of incumbent Tiram assemblyperson Gopalakrishnan Subramaniam.

"Muda itself is not perfect. Including me.

"I admit the posting on my visit to Ulu Tiram have degraded the duties and responsibilities carried out by the Keadilan assemblyperson," said the Muda president in a Facebook post.

"In the spirit of solidarity with colleagues in Keadilan, I apologise for my mistake.

"In Muar, I am also not perfect. There are still many duties and responsibilities that I need to complete," said Syed Saddiq.

"Continue to criticise my work and my speech [...]," he added.

In his earlier posting which has since been deleted, Syed Saddiq made references to complaints allegedly received from Ulu Tiram residents against their elected assemblyperson.

Among others he claimed that despite allocations received, voters met by Muda during its roadshow today complained they were left unserved.

Responding to Syed Saddiq's initial statement, Johor DAP Women publicity secretary Marina Ibrahim said the former minister should have been more mature in his approach.

"Politicking is fine, highlight the best offer we can give if elected as a leader, not by coming to campaign and straightaway attacking our opponents," said Marina, who is also DAP's Layang-Layang constituency coordinator.

On Twitter, PKR Youth member Adam Adli Abdul Halim also issued a veiled reminder to Syed Saddiq on Muda's ongoing negotiations for seats from PKR in the upcoming Johor polls.

Muda has launched the party's 'Muda Mendengar' roadshow in Johor but has yet to confirm the number of seats it will be contesting in, pending the conclusion of negotiations with Harapan parties. - Mkini
