Fair Malaysian: In this interview, former Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd group chief executive officer (CEO) claimed to be a Malay and a Muslim.

What a laughable matter on the backdrop of the sleaze and blackmail as claimed by former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner. Her behaviour and attitude tell a different story.

What baffles me is the claim by Leissner that apparently the whole region knew about this affair, but our "moral guardians" never did.

With religious zealousness, they defend Islam but why didn’t they take action in this case? Instead, they went after a poor mother who sought the best for her children.

But we all know this is happening among the elites. And we know they have no moral scruples to be ashamed of. In fact, it's something they brag about among themselves.

As for the religious lot, what can you say about these uneducated ancient relics who only know how to bully those weaker than themselves.

But if you knew about 1MDB and used that knowledge to allegedly blackmail your former lover so you can get a piece of the stolen loot, then you should be held to account.

However, I doubt you have anything to worry about. You are an elite. Your case will get an NFA (no further action).

When they are in a situation that they can take advantage of materially, oops, sex, sleaze and corruption - Mariam said it better - their choices are not much different from any other people.

It doesn't matter who they are. The attraction of the flesh and the carnal are temptations that are difficult to resist because that is what our senses are drawn to. So, why are we surprised?

So much for our holier-than-thou ministers who condemn Western decadence. The reason it is more prevalent in the West is that they have reached the standard of living where this is possible, while in Malaysia, only a few are in that category, those whom Mariam called the elites.

We should not give reverent worship to these so-called leaders in our high places. They are just as much the same as you and I.

Jais (Selangor Islamic Religious Department) and Jakim (Department of Islamic Development) should investigate this class of Malays instead of bullying and punishing those from the B40 (bottom 40 percent) and people like Nur Sajat.

Sajat has not stolen the rakyat's money, but these people have.

It is so disgusting to read about these sleazy folks, be it a Tan Sri or Datuk. They are of lesser worth than ordinary folks who work hard and honestly for their money and do not steal from the rakyat.

It is one of those truths that is true the world over, not only in Malaysia.

However, Malaysia is one of those countries where there is no shortage of it. It taints everyone, including foreigners that come in contact with us.

The entire system of government seems to support and even hide it. Many of us are guilty, at one time or another, of sustaining it. This must stop.

There is another saying, "wine, women and songs". Sex is featured somewhere when it comes to power. (Let's not talk about alcohol. It is an open secret.)

Even the squeaky-clean British royalty cannot escape this. After the conquest of money, they go after the ultimate price, the conquest of beautiful women.

I suppose with lots of money and power, who cares about religion. It is only needed when you want to swear to God to justify an unjustifiable innocence. Otherwise, I suppose He is just inconvenient to have around.

So Malaysians. Are we going to just sit around and be armchair commentators? Johoreans, over to you.

Anonymouse_97321: The damage over the long term is that greed and self-interest have been made aspirational.

The perception of most from the behaviour of the kleptocrats is that it is okay to go ahead and take as much as you can from your fellow Malaysians.

The people involved knew they were never likely to be made accountable, probably felt it was a right, or entitlement, to do whatever they wanted to do to get richer.

Such behaviour, which clearly goes against the principles of any religion or the basic morals, or codes of acceptable behaviour, shows a level of arrogance and contempt for their fellow citizens that is shocking.

Dizzer: This 1MDB saga would have to be a long-running TV series - far too many characters, too many plot twists, it's intergenerational, crime, comedy, sex ... it's got everything and shows no sign of ever ending.
