94 Kelantan parents lodge reports against children’s vaccination

Kelantan’s vaccination rate for young children is reported to be the lowest, at 7.8%.

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan police said today 94 reports have been lodged by parents who did not want their children to be vaccinated under the Covid-19 national immunisation programme.

The 94 reports were among a total of 157 reports lodged since Feb 3 about individuals who refuse to take the Covid-19 vaccination.

“Parents decided to lodge police reports so as to prevent their children from having to attend the PICKids (children’s immunisation) programme in their area,” Kelantan deputy police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun said, according to New Straits Times.

He said the parents stated various reasons in their reports, including the fear of side effects.

Zaki said the 157 reports involved a total of 441 people who had refused to take the vaccine including the booster shots.

The immunisation programme for children aged 5 to 12 began on Feb 3, with Kelantan reported to have the lowest vaccination rate at 7.8%.

More than 904,000, or a quarter of Malaysia’s 3.6 million children aged five to 12 have received one dose of the vaccine as of March 3. -FMT
