PETALING JAYA: A man, whose 11-year-old daughter was allegedly molested by a school van driver recently, has advised parents to instil awareness about the danger of sexual harassment to their children.

The man, whose identity has been withheld to protect his daughter’s privacy, also emphasised that sexual harassment issues must not be taken lightly.

“We (parents) have to be alert. Do not take issues pertaining to sex lightly. Always ask the children, give them room so they are not shy to share with us (about sexual harassment),” he said in a Facebook post.

The man added that many children, even when they reach adulthood, are confused as to whether they had experienced sexual harassment.

“It is only when we read about certain incidents that old memories visit us.

“Is it wrong if someone holds your hand, touches your buttocks, or rubs your legs? Is molestation only restricted to touching breasts?” he asked.

The man reminded the public that most sexual predators are good at portraying themselves as caring people which can further confuse the victims.

Based on a police report lodged by his wife today, the police arrested a 41-year-old school van driver for allegedly molesting the girl inside the van on March 28 and March 29.

The driver is said to have touched the girl’s cheek while complimenting her, and had also asked her to “add” him on WhatsApp. He later allegedly rubbed her right leg.

The incident took place when the driver was sending the girl home from school in Seremban.

The police confirmed that the suspect had admitted to committing the acts. - FMT
