JOHOR BAHRU: Umno veteran Shahrir Samad has urged Johor voters not to use the state elections to vent their political frustrations, which would jeopardise the future of the people and the state.

He said the elections should not be a platform to vent frustrations arising from political polemics. “Five years is not a short period of time,” he said in an interview with Bernama TV today.

As an example of the need for stability, he said Barisan Nasional (BN) in Johor had previously prepared various development plans for the state but these stalled after the party lost power in the 2018 general election.

Shahrir, who is Johor Bahru Umno division chief, said that BN’s manifesto calls for political stability and contains five pledges comprising economic growth, the people’s wellbeing, the youth of Johor, governance with integrity, and political reforms.

Polling day in the state elections is March 12, with early voting on March 8. - FMT
