Parliament: MP interjects Najib's debate, gets ejected

PARLIAMENT | RSN Rayer (Pakatan Harapan-Jelutong) has been ejected from the Dewan Rakyat after he repeatedly interjected former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak during the latter’s debate of the royal address.

Rayer was suspended by deputy speaker Ramli Mohd Nor (above, left) from the House for one day.

This came after Rayer (above, right) requested for Najib to be barred from debating the royal address on the grounds that the Pekan MP lied on the matter relating to the nation’s finances and 1MDB.

Citing Clause 36(12) of the Dewan Rakyat's Standing Orders, Rayer said Najib should not be permitted to spread lies to confuse the House.

Ramli said Rayer can raise the issue when it is his turn to debate.

After a few attempts to stop Rayer from raising the issue, Ramli said, "I order the sergeant-at-arms to accompany Jelutong (MP) to leave."

"What mistake have I made ?" asked Rayer.

"Confusing the House," said Ramli.

Rayer declined to sit down and allow Najib to continue as instructed by Ramli.

"It is not wrong for us to seek an explanation from him," stressed Rayer.

"But Pekan (MP) declines to give way to you," responded Ramli.

"I do not confuse the Dewan Rakyat, they simply want to disturb the House," rebutted Najib, before continuing with his debate on 1MDB. - Mkini
