PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu state government will investigate claims that government land on Redang Island was sold to tycoon Vincent Tan.

Menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the sale of government land was a serious matter, and that a detailed investigation would be carried out, Berita Harian reported.

“We will check the land office records to determine where the land is located and who sold it, and so on. All this will be on record but we haven’t gone through everything yet.

“To my knowledge, a police report has been filed. So, let’s wait for them to complete their investigations,” he was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.

“We too, want to find out the truth behind this because the government rarely sells its land.”

A recent Facebook post alleged that former menteri besar Ahmad Said had leased a piece of government land to Tan.

Ahmad, who is also the Kijal assemblyman, has denied the accusations and said he never met the tycoon while he was menteri besar. - FMT
