Hadi set to meet Dr M as PN woos Pejuang

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is set to meet with Pejuang chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad soon.

He will be the second top Perikatan Nasional (PN) leader to meet Mahathir, as the coalition seeks to bolster its ranks ahead of the 15th general election.

Speaking to reporters in Marang, Terengganu, Hadi said PAS was willing to work with any party that was not "extreme" or liberal.

"We will work with anyone to unite the ummah," he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

Yesterday it was revealed that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had met with Mahathir to secure cooperation for the 15th general election.

Mahathir has been dismissive of the idea, saying today that he would not support Muhyiddin's bid to become prime minister again, calling the latter a backstabber and a failure.

However, Mahathir's son Mukhriz, who is also Pejuang president, had indicated yesterday that the party would be willing to leave the past behind and work with Bersatu or other opposition parties.

Efforts by Bersatu and PAS to woo Pejuang come after all three had a dismal showing during the Johor polls.

PN came in third place in the popular vote, while Pejuang was decimated and lost all its deposits. - Mkini
