KOTA BARU: Police has stressed that it will not arrest individuals with outstanding summonses or those issued with warrants of arrest during the ongoing Op Selamat 18.

Federal police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Mat Kasim Karim said the eight-day operation was aimed at ensuring a smooth traffic flow.

"I would like to dismiss the news that went viral recently that police would be using the Compound Online Payment System (iCOPS) device to help us in tracking down errant motorists.

"It is actually to help the police ensure a smooth traffic flow during this coming festive season or during the balik kampung rush.

Mat Kasim said police have five units of iCOPS, placed at all the five zones in the country, including east and west zones.

He said the force would only add more devices if the situation persisted.

The ceremony today saw the handing over of the post from outgoing police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat to his deputy Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun.
