Covid-19 (April 30): 2,107 new cases - a 54 week low

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,107 new Covid-19 cases yesterday - the lowest in 54 weeks.

Active cases stood at 45,507, down 56.2 percent compared to 14 days ago. As of April 29, the R-number was at 0.65.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Penang (146)
Perak (123)
Negeri Sembilan (120)
Johor (111)
Malacca (91)
Sarawak (66)
Pahang (61)
Sabah (48)
Kedah (43)
Putrajaya (26)
Terengganu (22)

Perlis (4)
Labuan (0)


Another five deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday without any categorised as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of eight people were reported to have died of the disease, while the average for the past 30 days was 18.8, indicating that such deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,547 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There were 564 deaths reported last month and 2,235 in March.

States that reported deaths are Kedah (2), Johor (1), Pahang (1) and Terengganu (1).

There are 1,190 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 69 are in intensive care.

The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care has not been this low since Oct 8, 2020 - slightly over 18 months.

Some 436 people were admitted due to the coronavirus yesterday - the lowest since December 2020.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (162) followed by Johor (80) and Sabah (48). - Mkini
