DBKL to conduct study to ease traffic congestion

The traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur is said to be worse now than before the pandemic.

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will conduct a detailed study on measures to reduce the traffic congestion in the federal capital.

Federal territories (FT) deputy minister Jalaluddin Alias said attention would be given to certain aspects, such as traffic light coordination, the parking management system, entry of heavy vehicles, errant road users and traders operating at inappropriate places.

“I do not guarantee the traffic congestion will be resolved 100%, but this is to keep the situation from escalating,” he told reporters at the Aidilfitri celebration at the Anjung Kelana transformation centre for the homeless here today.

He said traffic in the federal capital was monitored and managed by DBKL’s Kuala Lumpur command and control centre (KLCCC) unit, formerly known as the integrated transport information system.

He also raised the possibility of merging the traffic light system in the city centre which is currently managed by two different companies.

Jalaluddin said the results of the study would be tabled at the FT ministry post-Cabinet meeting.

It has been reported that traffic congestion in the federal capital is now worse than before the Covid-19 pandemic, especially with workers now returning to the office and students going back to school. - FMT
