‘Don’t get too cocky’ - Hamzah hits back at Ahmad Maslan for calling Bersatu ‘weak’

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin has hit back at Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan for describing Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin’s departure from Bersatu as a sign of the party’s weakness.

In an Astro Awani report today, Hamzah said that on the contrary, Bersatu is currently a strong party - with representatives in the cabinet.

When asked to comment on the statement by the Pontian MP, Hamzah stressed that an individual’s decision to leave had nothing to do with the party itself.

He warned Ahmad to refrain from making arrogant statements.

“Don't try to show off, just because Yang Amat Berhormat (Ismail Sabri Yaakob) is the prime minister. His numbers (in Parliament) are small.

“The others come from other parties. I want to remind Ahmad, don't get too cocky,” he said yesterday when met by reporters at a PAS Hari Raya event in Ipoh, Perak.

On Friday, Ahmad reportedly claimed Zuraida's move from Bersatu to Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) signified that the party was getting weaker.

Additionally, in light of the incident, Ahmad called for the anti-hopping laws to be tabled in Parliament this July, despite there being no special sitting.

Last Thursday, Zuraida announced her resignation from Bersatu.

This put her position as a minister, which was by virtue of a Bersatu quota, into question.

Zuraida, however, did not resign but said she will discuss the matter with Ismail Sabri. She is set to join PBM. - Mkini
