Umno Youth chief retracts statement against Mujahid in defamation case

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki today retracted an allegedly defamatory statement he made against former religious affairs minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

This was part of a settlement recorded at the Kuala Lumpur High Court in the Amanah leader’s defamation suit against Asyraf.

Mujahid's lawyer Noorazmir Zakari told Malaysiakini that the Umno Youth chief also agreed to delete his statement from social media, as well as make a public posting about retracting the statement.

Asyraf had on Sept 30, 2019, made a Facebook posting asking Mujahid to explain Tabung Haji’s alleged selling of RM2.6 billion equity in Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

Asyraf - who is a former deputy religious affairs minister - said in his posting that Mujahid had explained that no such sale occurred during the latter's time in office and that the matter was considered resolved.

Mujahid, in response to today's settlement, hoped that no one would use Tabung Haji to stir anger, including towards Asyraf.

He said everyone should aspire to take the high road and choose peace. - Mkini
