Anwar should justify seeking support from 'court cluster' - Bersatu man

Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin has urged PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to justify his alleged attempts at brokering support from Umno MPs to be appointed as prime minister.

The Bersatu information bureau deputy chairperson said Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s revelations have confirmed rumours of a supposed secret pact between Anwar and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to bring down the previous PN-government led by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

“I urge the Port Dickson MP (Anwar) to come forward and justify his readiness to gain the support of the ‘court cluster’ to be the prime minister.

“What did he promise to Zahid and the court cluster in order to fulfil his pathological obsession to be named as prime minister?” said Afif in a statement today.

The former PKR Youth chief also took a swipe at PKR and DAP leaders over their past remarks targeted towards PN politicians working with Umno, but yet remained silent after Anwar was found to have been willing to accept support from MPs caught in corruption trials.

Tajuddin, in a tell-all press conference yesterday, said Zahid’s oft-repeated “No DAP, no Anwar” mantra was a lie, as he was a “living witness” to the later signing a statutory declaration backing Anwar as prime minister.

In late 2020 and early 2021, Anwar had claimed that he had the numbers to form a new government that was “convincing, formidable and strong” - implying that there were defections.

The support never materialised, and Anwar told an interview in April that the promise fell apart because he refused to compromise on certain principles, such as by declining to give free out-of-jail cards to politicians who are facing criminal trials in court.

Meanwhile, Zahid today said it is up to his party’s members to decide the veracity of Tajuddin’s claims. - Mkini
