KUALA LUMPUR: The Anti-Party Hopping law needs to be implemented before the 15th General Election (GE15) so that elected representatives seeking to leave a political party will not do so arbitrarily.

Pengerang Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman, said if the proposed law was implemented, elected representatives who wanted to leave Barisan Nasional (BN) could do so, but the seat would belong to the party.

"You can go, but the seat is ours. Do not think that you can take it away.

"So we will have to get rid of these 'frogs' because the by-election victories that took place in Melaka and Johor are proof that they caused the people's anger."Today everyone wants us because we are like flamboyant widows. BN is a 'better nation' because we have served the people for 48 years and our previous defeat was because we were slandered," she said.

Azlina said this in a presentation session entitled 'The Future of Barisan Nasional' at the one day Barisan Nasional convention, held here today.

The former Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker said BN also needs to reform its agenda from the manifesto's point of view to ensure their victory in GE15.

The Pengerang Member of Parliament said BN should not behave like the faction next door which governed the country for 22 months, but all its manifestos were mere lies.

"Even though we are only 34 per cent in the government, we did at least a little good to the people, imagine if we had 100 per cent.

"That's why we have to win, at least 148 out of 222 seats.

"If we want to win, we have to be brave to change and the victory is not for us, but for the people," she said. - NST
