Court throws out defamation suit against Sungai Siput MP

The High Court has dismissed a defamation suit brought by the Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan’s former aide, R Indrani, against Kesavan’s denial of sexually harassing her.

The court ordered both parties to pay their own legal costs.

This is after the judge Azimah Omar concluded that both parties in the suit were having an affair.

“The court finds that the plaintiff (Indrani) and the defendant (Kesavan, above) were having an extramarital affair. This is evident from their conversations (via WhatsApp messages).

“Thus, the court has decided to dismiss this defamation suit,” the judge ruled.

Indrani, who was the former Sungai Siput PKR division treasurer, had filed the suit against Kesavan after the MP denied her accusation that he had sexually harassed her.

Kesavan was represented by the law firm Armand Ali & Co, while the plaintiff was represented by lawyer Rueben Mathiavaranam.

In 2019, Malaysiakini reported that Kesavan and his former aide had lodged police reports against each other.

In her police report, Indrani claimed she was a victim of sexual harassment perpetrated by the Kesavan since December 2018.

Kesavan, meanwhile, alleged that Indrani was causing him mental torture and trauma.

When contacted, Indrani said she would appeal the court decision.

“I have instructed my lawyer to make the appeal soon,” she told Malaysiakini. - Mkini
