Minister urged not to delete disgruntled aspiring teachers' comments

Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin has been urged to engage aspiring teachers who are trying to remedy their failure to receive a proper contract.

In a statement today, DAP education spokesperson Teo Nie Ching said she had received complaints from aspiring teachers who were trying to reach Radzi through his Facebook.

These complainants, Teo said, had received a two-year "contract of service" despite having a degree in education, which should qualify them for an Education Services Officer (Grade DG41) contract.

"The feedback I've received is that their pleas on Radzi's Facebook were deleted. Some of them tried to message Radzi through Facebook (messenger) and were blocked.

"I urge the Education Ministry and Education Services Commission to dialogue and engage, not delete and block," said Teo.

The Kulai MP explained that the complainants' grievances stemmed from those who passed the interview stage of the one-off special intake for Education Services Officer (Grade DG41) in 2021.

These complainants, she said, were not given the contract due to "incomplete documents". However, upon appeal, the complainants received a "contract of service" reserved for those without a degree in education.

This "contract of service" would allow aspiring teachers to earn a post-graduate diploma in education at a teacher training institute. - Mkini
