PUTRAJAYA: The government has announced the return of Merdeka Day events after two years of muted celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also urged all Malaysians to enliven the National Day by hoisting Jalur Gemilang at premises to express their love for the country.
"Apart from waving Jalur Gemilang, (we can) prove our love by practising good values, cooperation and exercise tolerance; supporting the government's initiatives and disseminating only genuine and verified news," he said at the launch of the National Month and Wave the Jalur Gemilang 2022 at Dataran Putrajaya today.
This year's celebration themed 'Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama' reflects the harmony and peace in our multiracial country, he said.
At the event, Ismail Sabri flagged off the Kembara Keluarga Malaysia 2022 (KKM2022) convoy.
Baton Jalur Gemilang will be passed throughout the KKM2022 journey from Putrajaya, many locations in the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak. KKM2022 will end at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on Aug 31, the celebration venue for the National Day celebrations.
Earlier, Ismail Sabri and thousands of Malaysians walked for about 2.7km together from Dataran Putra under the 'Berjalan Teguh Bersama' programme. - NST
