Dzukefly still has the ‘aura’, says Kuala Selangor Amanah

On May 23, Dzulkefly Ahmad said he wanted to make way for a new face to contest the Kuala Selangor seat in GE15.

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Selangor Amanah wants Dzulkefly Ahmad to defend his parliamentary seat there, though the former health minister has stated his intention not to contest in the next general election (GE15).

Kuala Selangor Amanah deputy chief Nagmudin Hussain said the division had proposed Dzulkefly as its candidate for the Kuala Selangor seat, where the latter is the MP.

“We didn’t submit any other name and we hope that the leadership will consider this proposal to ensure that we can defend the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat,” he said in a Sinar Harian report.

He said Amanah lacked young leaders who could take Dzulkefly’s place, adding that the former minister’s “leadership aura” was still needed to fend off other parties.

Nagmudin added that some 30 NGOs and community groups backed Dzulkefly to continue serving as the Kuala Selangor MP.

“He still has the energy and is healthy. He is also very knowledgeable in matters like religion, politics, economy and health,” he said.

He added that Dzulkefly was well-respected by friends and foes.

On May 23, Dzulkefly said he wanted to make way for a new face to contest the Kuala Selangor seat in GE15, having served as its MP for two terms.

He was first elected as the Kuala Selangor MP in 2008 but lost the seat to Umno’s Irmohizam Ibrahim in 2013. He subsequently won the seat for Pakatan Harapan in 2018. - FMT
