Where is your promise to provide free water, Najib asks Selangor govt

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has hit out at the Selangor government for failing to fulfil its promise to provide free water.

He said the increase of water tariff for commercial use in Selangor was not timely.

"What happened to your promise for free water, Pakatan?” he said in a post on Facebook Saturday (July 30).

On Friday (July 29), Selangor infrastructure and public utilities, modernisation of agriculture and agro-based industry committee chairman Izham Hashim said that the average increase in the water tariff rate is still considered low and does not involve domestic users.

Izham explained that domestic consumers are not affected by the recent announcement of an increase in water supply tariff, which only affects the non-domestic category such as the commercial and industrial sectors.

Najib said that the 30% increase in tariff from RM2.07 to RM2.62 per cubic metre does not help Malaysians in facing the high rate of inflation.

“This will only add to the rising cost of doing business as well as general goods and services. But when prices of goods shoot up, you slam the Federal Government instead,” said the Pekan MP. - Star
