PUTRAJAYA: Home minister Hamzah Zainudin says those with information on the whereabouts of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho (also known as Jho Low) should contact the relevant Malaysian authorities.

At a media conference here today, Hamzah questioned the actions of those claiming to know Low’s whereabouts but not sharing the information with Malaysian authorities.

This followed a report claiming that Low was seen at a Disneyland theme park in Shanghai, China, on the eve of Christmas in 2019.

Hamzah was speaking to the media after announcing the implementation of the Malaysia premium visa programme.

A news portal had reported that Bradley Hope, co-author of the book Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World, had mentioned about the sighting of Low in the first episode of the programme, “Where is Jho Low? The Search for the 1MDB Fraud Mastermind”, broadcast via YouTube.

In the episode, Hope together with co-author Tom Wright shared a photo showing a man believed to be Low and two unknown individuals in a restaurant at the theme park. Hope claimed that the photo dated Dec 24, 2019 was received from a reliable source.

Low is wanted by the police to assist in the investigation into the 1MDB fund scandal.

The police have been trying to locate him but have so far been unsuccessful.

On claims that former prime minister Najib Razak’s name was not in the prisons department’s database, Hamzah advised the public not to believe rumours or viral posts on social media.

“Before this, did you (media) know about the prisons department’s database? When it comes to allegations or poison pen letters, let’s not pay attention to such things,” he added. - FMT
