'Satay seller' Lokman charged over postings against PM, govt

Former Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam has claimed trial for two charges of making offensive communications against Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the government.

Lokman, who pleaded not guilty, has been accused of making the offending remarks on Facebook with the intent of annoying others.

Both charges were framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

According to the charge sheets, the offending remarks were made in videos where Lokman (above) railed against Ismail Sabri and the government over their handling of former premier Najib Abdul Razak's SRC International final appeal.

Bernama reported that the prosecution asked for bail to be set at RM15,000 for each charge.

However, Lokman's lawyer asked for RM2,000 bail for each charge on the grounds that the former Umno supreme council member - who now works as a satay seller - did not have a stable income with 11 children of schooling age to look after.

Judge Nor Hasniah Abd Razak set bail at RM8,000 for each charge and issued a gag order against Lokman from commenting on the case on social media. - Mkini
