YOURSAY | Bersatu vexed because PAS is ditching it for Umno

YOURSAY | ‘Wan Saiful, you must be a very desperate man now…’

Wan Saiful: 'Leftist' Harapan unsuitable for Malaysia

Falcon: Malaysia remains today, thanks to politicians like Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan, totally in the abyss - corrupt, incompetent, self-serving, and full of hypocrisy.

Wan Saiful, you and your brethren, for political survival, serve an ecosystem of equally lazy, corrupt politicians and their base. You demand, even threaten, further subsidies and backdoor frills as your entitlement.

How can any country progress or sustain itself, if 45 percent of the population is subsidising 65 percent from cradle to grave?

Let's do the maths. DAP and PKR did not do this, Wan Saiful!

Kilimanjaro: Wan Saiful thinks that he and Bersatu would be better off without non-Malay votes. So be it.

Bersatu treats non-Malays as "serfs". It creates a non-Malay wing and non-Malays can join it as associate members but without voting rights.

The tricks and tactics of the past in hoodwinking the non-Malays won't work anymore. Surely, as a researcher, Wan Saiful should have known that.

Newday: As a ‘lefty’, I don’t take umbrage at your comment but do feel saddened by what you perceive as your strength.

Socio-political conservatism, you state. You are seriously stuck in a big long-term rut. Nothing moves forward in a society beset by conservatism. It is all about control to ensure a compliant population that does not question.

We are where we are today due to this narrow attitude. Only governments that truly make change with the benefit of the people in mind are left-leaning governments.

Citizen22: Pakatan Harapan stands for good governance, transparency, freedom of expression, non-interference of the state in an individual's freedom and rights, clear separation of powers between the executive, legislature and judiciary, and independence of government institutions free from the grip of the government of the day.

These are all centrist policies that benefit all sections of society. If this is considered extreme, then we have an emerging sick society.

Apanama is Back: Wan Saiful, for a country to progress, we need leftists, centrists and rightists.

You mentioned that "our country was founded by first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman’s principles of freedom and justice". The word ‘freedom’ means all three ideologies should exist in our society.

And we should also do justice to all three. DAP and PKR have leftist leanings, while Umno Baru and Bersatu have rightist leanings (Malay first, Malaysian last, not second - my definition).

Let me revisit the last part of Tunku's declaration of independence: "Now, In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful, I Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, Prime Minister of the Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, with the concurrence and approval of Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Malay States do hereby proclaim and declare on behalf of the people of the Persekutuan Tanah Melayu that as from the thirty-first day of August, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven, the Persekutuan Tanah Melayu comprising the States of Johor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Malacca and Penang is and with Allah’s blessing shall be forever a sovereign democratic and independent State founded upon the principles of liberty and justice and ever seeking the welfare and happiness of its people and the maintenance of a just peace among all nations."

By the way, who are you to tell me that leftists are unsuitable for Malaysia? Italy will soon have a far-right leader Giorgia Meloni as their first female prime minister.

In a democracy, people should be given the choice of whether they prefer leftists, centrists or rightists to lead.

Iphonezours: Wan Saiful, as a researcher, your assessment has been more of a load of rubbish.

Did you forget that all political parties in Malaysia subscribe to the supremacy of the Constitution and Rukunegara?

Harapan is more pro-rakyat, especially the lower income group, whereas Perikatan Nasional, which you claim as centre right, is rooted in racial and religious rhetoric that does not unite but divide this nation.

Undecided: Wan Saiful accused Umno of being a vehicle solely aimed at furthering personal interests and plundering the nation.

Few would disagree with him, especially Harapan supporters. However, Bersatu leaders have the same Umno DNA and are therefore equally racist, untrustworthy, wealth-seeking and power crazy, as evidenced by their infamous Sheraton move.

The rakyat's welfare is not your priority and your role as protector of race, religion and country is deceptive.

Go ahead and fight among yourselves. You won't get our votes anyway at the 15th general election.

Mosquitobrain: Wan Saiful, you must be a very desperate man now after your party president, former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, is running around like a headless chicken. This is probably due to PAS leaving Bersatu for Umno.

Can you enlighten me on what you mean by ‘leftist’ Harapan not suitable for Malaysia?

Anyway, it would be bizarre if, according to you, the leftist Harapan emerged victorious at the end of the general election and kicked out all the rightist politicians like you.

JazliSalleh: Bersatu and PAS are Umno subsidiaries. Corruption and betrayal are part of their shared values.

They came out of Harapan because they were not allowed to continue practising the corrupted lifestyle of Umno which they were very used to. So, voting for Bersatu or PAS is not going to solve the problem of kleptocracy in Malaysia. - Mkini
