Hamzah's sarcastic salvo - Kelantanese don't want Nik Aziz's son?

Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin mocked PKR’s decision to field Nik Omar, the son of late PAS spiritual leader and Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, as a candidate in Perak.

“Where is Nik Omar from, don’t the people of Kelantan want him?

“If he is so great that even the people of Kelantan don’t want him, then it is fine,” Hamzah (above) told reporters in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, this afternoon.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Nik Omar would be fielded as a candidate in Perak for the 15th general election but PKR did not reveal if he would contest a state or parliamentary seat.

In the 2018 national polls, he contested the Chempaka state seat in Kelantan under Amanah but trailed far behind two of his opponents.

Nik Omar garnered only 2,418 votes in the three-cornered fight, which witnessed PAS candidate Ahmad Fathan Mahmood emerging as the victor.

Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz to contest in Perak

Meanwhile, Hamzah, who is also the home minister and Bersatu secretary-general, compared PKR’s decision to move Nik Omar to Perak to the government transferring problematic staff.

“For example, when we find that a civil servant has done something inappropriate, we send this person to faraway places.

“It is the same in politics,” he added.

Pakatan Harapan has declared Perak as a frontline state for the coming polls after its prime minister candidate Anwar Ibrahim announced that he would contest the Tambun seat.

The incumbent for Tambun is Bersatu deputy president and former Perak menteri besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Perak is also the home state of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is expected to defend his Bagan Datuk seat. - Mkini
