PASIR GUDANG: A massive unscheduled water cut since Friday affecting more than 100,000 households around here saw netizens making a plea to Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for a quick solution.
A netizen tweeted to the crown prince yesterday saying that households in Plentong and Bandar Seri Alam have been without water supply for three days.
“We are having problems cooking, washing ourselves up, and performing our prayers. There is no sight of water tankers,” she said.
Following this, scores of followers joined in the chorus, with many of them taking the Johor government to task over the delay in resolving the problem.
One of them said it is okay if it was only for 24 hours but it’s now three days and we are facing huge problems going about our daily routine.
“The keyword here is three days without water.”
In response, the crown prince tweeted the reply he got from the state water authority, Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd after he ordered them to resolve the matter as soon as possible and to monitor the situation closely.
He also sought an explanation from the land office in Johor Bahru and the Pasir Gudang municipal council.
“I was told the problem arose after a major pipe burst incident. This has affected supply to Bandar Seri Alam, Nusa Damai and Taman Rinting. Ranhill SAJ is working hard to resolve the matter urgently.
“The company is also sending water tankers to the affected areas from time to time until the problem is fixed,” he said.
A netizen then tweeted that things are moving only after the intervention of the crown prince, who is popularly known as TMJ, while another defended the BN government saying water tankers were dispatched even during heavy rain.
It was reported that over 50 areas in Plentong, Masai and Tanjung Langsat have been experiencing water disruption since Friday after a pipe burst here in Bandar Seri Alam.
Yesterday, Ranhill SAJ said that attempts to fix the pipe have been prolonged following a landslide at the location.
“Attempts to fix the pipe had to be extended following an unexpected incident where a landslide occurred at the scene. This halted the process, causing a delay in fixing the pipe,” it said in a Facebook statement.
Residents have been told that it may take another two to three days before full water supply is restored.
As of now the affected areas still without water supply involve more than 62,000 households in Bandar Seri Alam, Taman Rinting, Taman Siera Perdana, Plentong, Plentong Baru, Taman Ria, Permas Jaya, Kota Puteri, Megah Ria, Cahaya Kota Puteri, Senibong Cove, Teluk Tropikana, Taman Johor Jaya, Taman Desa Harmoni, Plentong Tengah, Taman Saujana Plentong, Taman Molek and Taman Redang.
Ranhill SAJ said it will continue to despatch water tankers to these areas from time to time. - FMT
