Umno accepts disciplinary board chairperson's resignation

The Umno supreme council has accepted the resignation of the party's disciplinary board chairperson Zulhasnan Rafique.

Confirming this, its secretary-general Ahmad Maslan thanked Zulhasnan (above) for his service, and announced the appointment of Mohd Hafarizam Harun as the latter's replacement.

Speaking to reporters after a supreme council meeting at the Umno headquarters last night, Ahmad further announced that the council had decided to sack Zaharin Mohd Yasin from the party effective immediately.

Ahmad did not elaborate on the membership termination other than to say Zaharin violated party ethics.

For the record, Zaharin is a blogger known for his critical stance against the party's leadership.

The council also decided last night that Parliament should be dissolved soon to pave way for the 15th general election (GE15) to be held this year.

As such, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be proposing the date for Parliament’s dissolution to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in line with Article 40(1) of the Federal Constitution, Ahmad said. - Mkini
