PETALING JAYA: Bersatu members who contest elections as independents without the party’s permission will be sacked, the party’s secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said today.
He said Bersatu members who are proposers or seconders of any independent candidate will also be expelled.
Hamzah’s statement comes in the wake of Kelantan Bersatu deputy chairman Zulkifli Zakaria’s dismissal from the party after he filed his papers as an independent candidate for the Bachok parliamentary seat.
Kelantan Bersatu chairman Kamarudin Noor said Zulkifli’s membership and post were automatically terminated, Bernama reported.
Zulkifli is in a five-cornered fight with Perikatan Nasional’s Syahir Che Sulaiman, Barisan Nasional’s Zain Yasim, Pakatan Harapan’s Nor Azmiza Mamat and Putra’s Kamarul Azam Osman. - FMT
