GE15: Batu parliamentary seat has highest number of candidates, says EC

PUTRAJAYA: With a 10-way fight, the Batu parliamentary seat has the highest number of candidates in the 15th General Election (GE15), says the Election Commission (EC).

Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said for state seats, Chenderiang in Perak and Bugaya in Sabah recorded the highest number of candidates, with seven for each seat.

The nomination of candidates for GE15 began simultaneously at 222 nomination centres across the country at 9am on Saturday (Nov 5) and was completed at 10am, said Abdul Ghani.

Polls for 222 parliamentary seats were being held along with the state elections of Perak, Pahang and Perlis, as well as the by-election for the state seat of Bugaya in Sabah.

No seat had been won uncontested, Abdul Ghani said.

"The 14-day campaign period begins after the official announcement of candidates was made by the returning officers and will run until 11.59pm on Nov 18," Abdul Ghani told reporters at Menara SPR here on Saturday.

He also said that four nomination papers for parliamentary seats and two for state seats had been rejected but gave no reason.

Abdul Ghani also did not answer any questions posed by the media.

He added that further details would be provided later in the day.

Polling was on Nov 19 and early voting was on Nov 15. - Star
